RESEARCH
ACTIVITIES
Determination
of the correlations between composition, structure ferroelectric,
ion-conducting and nonlinear optic properties of crystals as the scientific
base for design and synthesis of inorganic compounds with required properties.
MAIN
OBJECTS UNDER INVESTIGATION IN THE RECENT YEARS
Complex
tellurites and selenites of bismuth and rare earth
elements (REE), complex oxohalogenides and oxochalkogenides.
Large family
of layered oxyhalogeniges of Bi(REE)-Te belonging to a new type was discovered and investigated.
This family has a high percentage of compounds with noncentrosymmetric
structures. Among them the phases were found having high nonlinear optic
parameters and unique combination of piezoelectric and pyroelectric parameters
advantageous for pyroelectric applications.
The correlations between the composition and the structure were determined for
the phases in this group.
With the help of planned heterovalent substitution of
Bi or REE atoms in their fluorite-like oxofluorides, new anion-conducting
phases with wide homogenity regions were obtained.
The correlation between nonstoichiometry and
transport characteristics of these solid solutions were determined.
Current interests include design, synthesis, crystallographic and SHG
characterization of new layered and inorganic open framework phases.
